Three Ways To Move Or Keep Electrical Cords Out Of Sight And Out Of The Way In Your Plant

In a large factory, you always have a lot of equipment with many different cords and cables leading to the machines from power sources and outlets. A big part of electrical construction in industrial and manufacturing settings helps place these electrical cords and cables in areas where there is a path of least resistance for the electricity. However, that sometimes means that the cords, cables and wires are hanging out all over and in the way of workers on the work floors. Here are some ways in which your plant can move or keep electrical cords and cables out of sight and out of the way.

Electrical Construction and Remodeling

Invite an electrical contractor back into your plant to see if he or she can loop cables and cords through hidden spaces. This might include channels in the concrete floor that hide cords and cables, or running the cords and cables up the factory walls and securing them at intervals to the walls. Cords that are hanging down and hitting people in their heads and faces may be looped up over oversized u-bolts from the ceiling. The contractor can supply you with a few other remodeling ideas that can help.

Covering the Cords and Cables with Things Already Present in the Plant

If the cords and cables you have crisscrossing the floor cannot be stretched or placed under a concrete grate in the floor for everyone's protection, then you may want to consider covering the cords and cables another way. On the walls, the cords and cables can be threaded through metal or plastic pipe, which (inside an industrial plant) looks just like all of the rest of the pipes that are threaded up the walls for plumbing purposes. On the floor, industrial strength, oversized patches of duct tape or industrial tape covers, hides and secures the cords so that the workers do not trip over the cords or become entangled in them.

Shortening Cords and Cables and Placing the Connections in the Floors

Instead of plugging everything into outlets in walls or outlet boxes on posts all around the plant, you can request that the cords and cables for all your plant's machinery have the cords shortened. In conjunction with the manufacturers of the machines in your plant sending representatives to shorten the cords, an electrician could move all of the outlets you need from the walls and boxes on posts to the floors. Shorter cords traveling shorter distances to their outlets means you see less of the cords and there is less of the cords and cables to trip over.
